The 1980 - 81 Beavers men's basketball squad, nicknamed the “Orange Express,” had an incredible season! They ran up a 26 - 0 record and were ranked #1 in the nation for eight weeks. After winning the conference championship with a 17 - 1 record, All - American center Steve Johnson was named the Pac - 10 Player of the Year and legendary coach Ralph Miller won the 1981 AP Coach of the Year award. Oregon State played in the NCAA tournament eight times from 1980 to 1990 and won five regular season conference titles, but the 1981 team is still adored in Oregon.
