During the 1980s and 1990s, Indiana football players donned these helmets under the leadership of Bill Mallory, who became the winningest coach in program history. After Sam Wyche's single season as IU head coach, Mallory took the reins from 1984 to 1996. During this period, the Hoosiers participated in six bowl games and triumphed in the 1987 Liberty Bowl and 1991 Copper Bowl. A proud member of Miami University's 'Cradle of Coaches,' Mallory is fondly remembered at IU and across the college coaching landscape.
